Kids to Parks: Inspiring Young Minds Through History

The Kids to Parks program is a place-based learning initiative dedicated to providing fourth-grade students and their teachers with fully funded field trips to Fort Sumter and Fort Moultrie. This program enriches classroom history lessons by immersing students in the history, culture, and natural beauty of these historic sites, offering them an unforgettable hands-on experience. For many students, this is not only their first visit to these national landmarks but also their first boat trip and introduction to historic Charleston. By promoting a love for learning and a deeper appreciation of our national parks, Kids to Parks fosters a sense of stewardship and inspires young visitors to connect personally with their shared heritage.

Donate to Help Fund this Program

Your support for the Kids to Parks initiative allows us to make these educational adventures accessible to more young learners, many of whom might not otherwise have the opportunity. Donations directly fund transportation and logistical costs, ensuring that each fourth-grade student can experience the impact of hands-on learning in a natural, historical setting. By giving to this program, you’ll be helping bring history to life for young minds, instilling a sense of responsibility for our nation’s heritage, and inspiring a lifelong appreciation for our national parks. Join us in opening doors to discovery and learning for the next generation.

"This is a great trip for our students!  Many of them would not be able to come if it was not for this field trip.  They loved all of the stories.  The Robert Smalls’ story and seeing the bricks made by the enslaved children was powerful."
