About this Program
The Sensory Kits for Special Needs Visitors program is designed to make Fort Sumter and Fort Moultrie more accessible and enjoyable for visitors with sensory sensitivities and other special needs. Each kit includes thoughtfully selected items—such as noise-canceling headphones, fidget tools, sunglasses, and visual communication aids—crafted to help visitors engage with the park’s offerings in a way that feels comfortable and inclusive. This program goes beyond providing equipment by also offering training for Park Rangers to ensure they can better understand and support the needs of all visitors. By fostering an inclusive environment, the Sensory Kits for Special Needs Visitors program enables every individual to enjoy the beauty, history, and educational experiences these parks have to offer.
